The sizing of these items is always tricky. My child wears a traditional 7 slim / or 8 with an adjustable waist, and I purchased based upon the size chart measurements for a 20# waist. The waist is a "tiny-bit" loose, but not so loose that they'll fall off of her while cheering. Ideally they would be avail in smaller girls sizes, but would purchase again if no better sizing becomes avail. (Volleyball short used for cheering.)
